Project Description

Graphic Designers of Canada – Vancouver Island Chapter Awards Show

I created the collateral for this edition of the awards show, and used this mandala as the base for the various projects including a call for entries, poster, and the show presentation graphics. The idea was to create a “design machine”. It includes a “design per square inch” meter, a “typometer” and other tools of the trade.

The center emblem was based on the aluminum emblem on a vintage bakelite stereo viewer. The viewer and the Rolleiflex camera were my grandfather’s. I scoured junkyards and antique shops for the gauges, gears, pistons, saw blades and other items. All of the separate pieces were expertly photographed by Kerry Swartz.

The full mandala, typometer and design meter were animated in After Effects for use during the awards show.
